Elie joined the Division of Cardiac Surgery in July 2026 after graduating from the Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (M.D., C.M.) program at McGill University. He is fluent in both English and French, having completed all of his pre-university education in French-language institutions in Montreal and abroad.

As the first physician in his immediate family, he spent most of his first and second years of medical school exploring all medical specialties, both surgical and non-surgical, and eventually rapidly cultivated a passion for cardiac surgery. During medical school, he was involved in multiple research projects with cardiac surgery mentors at McGill University, Université de Montréal, and University of Toronto. He fostered an interest in the University of Toronto’s world-renowned Division of Cardiac Surgery after visiting the city to attend the 104th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS).

Early in medical school, his curiosity about various specialties culminated in establishing RegardMed, a student initiative summarizing recent medical topics and innovations through brief, bilingual, and referenced infographic posts. Later, driven by his passion for cardiac surgery, he co-founded the Canadian Cardiac Surgery Interest Group (CCSIG) to share his enthusiasm with medical students nationwide. As a multilingual speaker, his long-standing involvement in MedComm, a committee devoted to promoting culturally and linguistically sensitive healthcare for unilingual patients, led him from an active member position to leading the committee as president. He was honored to share his extracurricular experiences as a speaker for his medical school’s “Student Leaders Making a Difference in Health” lecture for first-year medical students, and to receive a leadership award from the McGill Medical Student Society (MSS) in 2024. Elie is passionate about medical education. During his time at McGill, he tutored in anatomy labs and during small groups, hosted review sessions, and organized simulation sessions and workshops. Outside of medicine, Elie enjoys numismatics, team sports, and exploring new cafés, bakeries, and restaurants. He is proud to be a member of the University of Toronto’s Cardiac Surgery Residency Program.
